John, I have ALWAYS agreed with you on when the new millennium starts! I was laughing my arse off all morning that we could have such an argument over saying the same thing. Let's recap a moment.
This thread started with Andy posting scans of "error" and corrected Trop $25 millennium chips.
Third direct response, Jim says, "the New Millennium doesn't start for another whole year." Jim and I have always agreed, also.
I respond, "you know I'm with you, Jim!" and "the first millennium didn't end until midnight of 12/31/1000."
Gene (who likes nothing better than to pick on me) says, "Lets see the proof!" You, on the other hand, said, "why did you start your example for the first decade with year-1? Having done so, continue counting any you will reach the "New Millennium on 01. Right?"
I tried to say, "we are right, and we will reach the "New Millennium" (and THE 21st century) on 2001."
You then digressed into rulers and measuring cups and chips in pockets, and now I have indelible Sharpie marks on my $100 Harrah's brass cores, trying to prove that I agree with you <g>! <g> (The first <g> means I was grinning while I typed that sentence. The second <g> means I was still grinning, just sitting here thinking about how clever what I said really was.)
If you stop to search the archives in your brain, you may recall many times I have talked about 2000 as the swing year... the last year of the old millennium, and the first year of the 2000's. New Years Eve 1999 we get an odometer roll, an event worth celebrating in it's own right. New Years Day 2001 is the dawn of the 3rd millennium. 2000 is party year!!! Are we one (1), or do you care to discuss it some more? (roflolpimp)
