Archie, The room key at the Holiday Beach Resort & Casino in Curacao was attached to a large plexiglass holder that weighed about a pound. They had a $20 room key charge noted on your bill in the event you happened to walk with it or forgot to give it back to the front desk at checkout time. Each time you left the hotel you turned in your key as many hotels suggest you do in Europe. I "lost" my key the second day & thought I would be given a similar one to use for the rest of the week. NOT! They gave me a key on a cheap key ring.
