Re: A straight answer? I'll try

You all are so used to this way of collecting and communicating and I'm a real newbie to this.

I wasn't offended by any of the questions I was asked (I really did get so many emails asking the same things) but in selling china or glass as I am used to (say a plate or cup) I often get emails asking if I have a platter or gravy boat in the same pattern and I consider that normal. Had someone emailed and asked if I had suchandsuch chip to list I would have been more inclined to answer more openly. I have had people ask me to sell outside of eBay... I do not. But I have listed items with a "Buy It Now" option and then emailed that person with the listing page so they can purchase it before it ever shows up on the search engine. So, I'm not purposely avoiding your questions as much as I do wonder about them.

I've never had anyone ask me, as so many have, to list my inventory in exacting detail, As well as... where do I live, my name, home, the name and location of the person who gave the chips to me. Where did that person came by them, do they have more and how many? etc, etc and etc....
I don't mind telling people somewhat about me... you can see from my auction page that I'm in CA, and my name, my email address. I said that I received the chips from a friend. I forgot to mention that they got them at the La Rue. (Sorry, that slipped my mind) but I do not feel comfortable giving my friend's name and location. I'm only being honest here, it did seem a bit invasive. You may be used to it and not see how someone new might feel a little strange being asked for so much personal info. Not necessarily from you particularly, Gene, but from many others.

From my research into the chips I have learned so much about Nevada (my birthplace) and about it's history. So much that I didn't know. And I've also learned a lot about some chip collectors that made me take notice. Most are very nice, very excited and involved in their collections. That's ok... I have my own collections and hobbies and I can get very excited about them. Get me to talking about Homer Laughlin china and then just TRY to shut me up!
But I have also learned that not all chip collectors share all their info as freely as one might assume and expect from others. There are collectors who withhold vast amounts of chips and do not reveal that info... a rack, as you say. And collectors who have come by rare chips and then destroyed them in order to drive the price of their own collection. This seems a bit extreme to me, I could never destroy a rare piece of china so that my own piece becomes more valuable... but as I said, I'm new to this so I will withhold any judgment about that.
But, perhaps you can now see why I might lean towards being vague after so many questions that seem, to me, over the top?
************

Just now I received a very kind and helpful email from one of the person's on this BB who has helped me to better understand your concerns... so, let me say, with 100% honesty, I do NOT have (nor have I ever had) a "rack" of anything. LOL
If anyone wonders about my integrity as a seller they can read my seller feedback on eBay. I have never had anything but positive feeback as a seller.
My one and only negative feedback on eBay was from a seller (a long time ago) who sold me a piece of china listed as perfect and yet had very old cracks in it... I gave them a neutral and they took revenge on me with a negative.

I was quite honest in saying I have a handful of the La Rue chips... I can indeed hold the whole lot of them in one hand. And they are all in similar condition to the ones I have listed for auction now. I received them from a friend. No one need know who my friend is as they don't have the chips any longer, I do. I do not have dozens of these La Rue chips.

And Gene, I did not see your first post to me, I do apologize. I was working through the posts AND the emails about new posts AND many separate emails sent directly to me... your first post went lost in the shuffle and your second post was at the bottom... took time.
I am also dealing with a child sick with the flu, who (as all children do) seems fairly well during the day but coughs all night with a raging fever. I'm tired.
My apologies again for not answering you sooner, or in as much detail as you desired.
