Hey Mark, on my first trip to Vegas I stayed at a small off-strip place called Mom's. The gaming area was small with only one poker/blackjack table which changed at Mom's will. The room was clean and nice, but I had to make my own bed. The food was great, but I was a little dissapointed that there was no buffet. The drink service was attrocious! I had to get my own each time!
Seriously tho, this past October I stayed at The Golden Nuggett. I booked a package deal (air and hotel) through their website. This is the finest Casino Downtown, and at $489.00pp was a bargain.
For this year, for the same dates (Oct. 26th - Nov. 3rd) the prices had jumped to over $700.00pp. I did a search on www.vegas.com and found a package at Fitzgerald's for $439.00pp. Other Downtown properties I'm considering are Main Street Station, California, The Plaza and Glitter Gulch jk.
Let me know when you are going to be there, because I can probably get you VIP Passes to the Downtown Gordie Brown show at the Nuggett.
