Mark, this is a matter of apples and oranges. If a seller is confident of the price his/her item will bring, then a fixed price offering is more suitable, and I am sure you would buy the item if you wanted it, regardless of where it was offered for sale (all James needs to do is to point you to the Collecting Fun web site). If the item is unusual or if the seller is not sure of the value of the item, or just wishes to sell in a short time although it may bring a lower price, then an auction may be more suitable. Whether an auction will bring the best price is always questionable, as you should certainly know by know. What if the person who would really want a particular item is on vacation? This is my opinion based on my observations.
The "Collecting Fun" model is mostly new to the collectibles scene (except for books) and I know it will take some time before everyone feels comfortable with it. In any case, thanks for the plug .
