Seems like Ive only just finished answering these points the last time.
As you already had an answer to your question before you asked it, why didnt you post your thoughts first? Im sure you would have had a better response.
Anyway, now Im here:
"FANTASY: Chip made for a casino that never existed, or a chip made for a current/previously existing casino commemorating it usually with dates .... really no gray area here .... includes fantasy chip makers/sellers out here now that clearly state what they are doing ...... have no effect on our genuine hobby ..... not now or in the future ... "
Most fantasy chips do not bear a casino name.
As demonstrated time and time again, many sellers deliberately mislead potential buyers as to the validity of these chips.
The effect on the hobby is that new collectors pay big $$ for chips that are not real. Its happened before, its happening now and will continue in the future. Genuine chippers (as opposed to those in the hobby purely for profit) will continue to 'call the facts as we see them' for the benefit and protection of newcomers.
"FAKE: Chip made for a casino that is/was real, but may be wrong denomination and/or may or may not have the markings or intentions of being real ...... gray area here like newer 4 Queens chip that looks like old Arodie ..... but is actually real ...... "
Wake up a minute - how can a live gaming chip be described as a fake - the 4 Queens chips are genuine reproductions - they are neither fake, fantasy or counterfeit.
A fake chip is an 'unauthorised reproduction' of any chip, whether the original (if there was one) was a live gaming chip, a fantasy chip, or otherwise.
If a fake chip is used to try and defraud a casino then it becomes a counterfeit.
"WOLF-CRIERS: There are some here that think the sky is falling and our hobby is ruined by Slabbers and Fixers."
Have you ever read the archives or the reports on the club web-site? Do you ever read the club message board? Many examples of fixed chips are known. The hobby is being ruined by the sellers that have the chips fixed and then re-sell them as the genuine article with no disclosure to the contrary. I must have made this statement 20 times in as many weeks and still most readers cant comprehend it.
"Repairing of chips as I see it is alarming, of course, but is such a minute issue and not worthy of prediction of doom, especially since any loss resulting from this cannot be documented, but only speculated upon."
At least its the first time youve admitted its alarming. Anyone who thinks it is a minute issue is either 1. Wearing blinkers 2. Afraid to know the truth about the chips in their collection 3. Hiding something
When I see anyone suggest that alteration of chips is not an issue, it concerns me.
As I can already predict the response to my last statement I will try and put it into perspective in advance. The limited facts that have so far been made public are cast iron facts that have been broadcast with the knowledge and agreement of the parties involved.
Just supposing you intended to sue someone but your entire case depended on a particular witness and you had not yet succeeded in getting the statement from that witness - would you broadcast the rest of the facts/names thus jeopardising the case?
Once again I will state.
Thousands of chips have been fixed. Thousands more will be. Anyone owning inlaid chips known also to exist in drilled condition should have them x-rayed. Anyone considering buying an undrilled chip known also to exist drilled should be asking the seller for a guarantee that the chip has not been altered.
Would you be happy to provide such a guarantee for every chip you sell? I would. I was asked for a guarantee regarding 3 chips I sold recently. I gave it. I even got Dave Whalen to guarantee he had not even seen those chips, let alone worked on them. Dave has nothing to hide. I do not condone what he is doing but he is merely providing a service. He is not selling altered chips as being 'genuine'. Plenty of others are.
In the fullness of time, Im sure the full facts will be made available.
I have fantasy chips, fakes, counterfeits and some repairs. Why? Because I collect them. I knew what I was buying because I was forewarned by others. These posts are designed to forewarn the blinkered and less knowledgable. Sorry to say it but you seem to fall into both categories.
There are no smily faces in this post.
Stick a fork in me, Im done.
