grin How To Make eBay Buyers Happy -- I Hope.

Today I received a small, unpadded, envelope with a slot token in it that was all beat up and in a Postal Service plastic bag. I was upset because I wanted that token for my collection.

So for everyones sake I thought I would make a listing of rules for eBay sellers. I have been selling chips for a long time on eBay and have learned a few things I would like to share with everyone.

1. In your auction terms and discription let the buyer know what is to be expected. Be specific.

2. When you get paid leave feedback for the buyer. They have fulfilled their end of the contract now it is up to you to fulfill your end. Buyers, leave feedback for the seller. I think the whole system is a crock, but what can I say? I will always leave feedback before the buyer until I get burnt with unfair negitives.

3. When you receive payment, either via mail or PayPal, let the buyer know that you got their money. Also tell the buyer when the item will be mailed. This might save a hassel at a later date.

4. PACKAGE THE ITEM WELL. I worked for the Postal Service for 30 years and I never ceased to be amazed how people pack stuff and think it will get through. Use padded bags, tape them shut even it they are self sealing, wrap the item in the invoice before you put it in the bag, get wide tape and tape over the address. The Postal Service does the best it can but you must help them out by packing well.

5. This may rub some sellers the wrong way, but if you have some something that is expensive and the buyer does not insure it, you insure it, unless you have a bunch of backup that you have nothing in. Saves a bunch of hassel if the item is lost.

6. If an insured item is lost, refund the money out of your own pocket and then you fight with the Postal Service. This makes you look good in the eyes of the buyer. But never hold the buyers money up. The buyer must help by filling out their end of the paperwork.

7. If I cheap item is lost and there is no insurance, just go ahead and refund. Why argue, wait until the second time. Common sense.

8. PRINT the address on your packaging, don't write it. Everyone can not read someones hand writing. Buyers, print your address too. Believe me it helps.

9. Be polite to your buyers, thank them for bidding on your auctions.

10. Mistakes happen. I have sent the wrong right chip to the wrong person a few times. Most buyers are understanding but let them know you are working to correct the problem.

I could probably think of more ways to be a good seller, but I think this is a pretty good list. I make some mistakes but I try to give good service. These are just a few hints to keep your customers happy. Not to brag but I have over 1600 positives so I must be doing something right.

Sorry for the lecture.
Steve
