You seem to be making catradictory statements.

Why would anyone be dumb enough to devalue his own stock by advertising the fact that there is a large supply available.

Any intelligent business person knows that you can keep your profits high by controlling the supply and maintaining an image of scarcity. Ask the world's diamond dealers, this has been their major tactic for a hundred years.
