I am sure I will get reamed for this statement but I do not care if you are collecting poker chips, meat tenderizers, man hole covers, totem poles, douche bags, ceramic ducks or whatever.
If there is a collector book out on the subject cut the prices listed by about 40-50% and you will have a fairly realistic view of what the actual market is.
This is not meant to be a slam against the good people that spend countless hours doing one of these volumes for the collecting fields. It is just the way the world works.
Then of course there are the scumbags that are sitting on a truckload of stuff that was discovered and the rest of the world was not told about. One individual comes to mind that lists all his stuff as "New" and a R6 or R8 chip, seems odd to me. I am new to chip collecting but it doesn't take an Einstein to note that it would be somewhat odd for someone to keep listing somewhat scarce chips in new condition. I am not referring to rare Vegas chips that actually have high values. I am speaking of most small town stuff that is not sought after to a large degree. However, that is what I like and am collecting.
Just remember they are only worth what you are willing to pay. That's all. That "testosterone bidding" really does not prove true value but does prove who has the biggest "cajones" , the biggest pocketbook, and the smallest brain.
Just one man's humble opinion...
