Hey George,
Sorry it took sooo long to respond to your question. I had a BIG presentation at work I had to finish.
Anyway, to answer you question:
First of all I use Adobe's PhotoShop, so what I tell you may or may not work with the graphic program you may be using...
Scan the image (that was the one on the left) into the computer at 180 dpi
Added a yellow overlay layer, which acts like an amber lens (recall that glasses that have amber or yellow lenses are used to help increase the contrast of the field of view by police, sportspersons, etc)
Cropping the image to remove the unwanted "yellow" from around the chip
Flatting (or combining the "Filter" with) the chip image
Converted this image to grayscale, then back to RGB
Then added this image to the original image as another overlay layer to help sharpen the details
Flatting this composite to a single image
Converted the resultant image to grayscale once again.
Combining the two images (original and "High Contrast") next to each other, and adding text and the green background finishes the image that is below.
Yes this seems strange - yet all I wanted to is to show that the "bar" between the various suits was contiguous, and it was hard to see when it was in the black edge inserts.
