Bob,
Roulette chips are counted at the end of each shift or when a table closes, the same as house chips on BJ tables. I am sure many casinos have back up racks. The smaller casinos do not. The Fiesta orders 300 of each color, 200 are on the table. Very easy to count. 80 roulettes missing would mean a new order of 2,100 different chips ASAP.
I also do not want a roulette can of worms. I have never said, chippers should not take roulettes. I don't, but will trade for them. Aiding and abetting, I guess.
One chipper taking a few, will not get anyone in trouble. Four chippers all taking a stack of different colors is a different story. The boss wants to know how it happened, that a pit boss did not see this come down. Why didn't the dealer see it? If he can't prove which dealer was on at the time it happened, all dealers in the string will get the blame. Mass punishment is alive and well in the casino industry.
Casinos that have 99% 50 cent or 25 cent play probably don't worry much. When there is big play, they worry. The problem is, you never know how the casino will take it at the time.
I sure am not looking for a fight on this one, so everybody can save their arguments.
One thing: Nevada is a right to work state. It can be good for employees but it also means " At will termination" The casino must be protected from scams. 80 roulettes missing can be considered a scam and an employee might be involved.
