Thanks for the article Don! I made this trip again heading to the Riviera this last June. I just gotta say though that this ain't gonna happen. This is one desolate part of the world and even I don't get much enjoyment out of this route. An airport isn't going to help. My name for Hwy 95 is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Highway, very spooky creepy. Drove from Portland down to Tonapah just N of Goldfield this summer for an overnight stay on the way to the convention. The Station House wanted to overcharge for their room since my fav good-to-truckers motel was closed down so I ended up at The Clown Motel (I kid you not!). Anyway, on the way back to Reno I stopped at the Goldfield Hotel and put some noseprints on the windows...sure wanted to get in there and poke around! Truly a grand place once upon a time but nothing's going to make a profit there now.
