Looking at the Palace Station $1 CIC's I've noticed that there are four different versions. The obvious differences are as shown in Jim Gagnon's scans, where the presence and lack of "NV" and "BJ" represent two different chips.
Looking at my scan below, you can also see two variations for both of those versions. Although the differences are subtle, they remain constant when looking through racks and racks of these chips, as I have done.
Looking at my scan, I show all four versions, including a view of the chips on-edge. You can see that Types #1 and #2 are the versions with "NV" and "BJ", while Types #3 and #4 are the version without "NV" and "BJ".
Looking at the edge inserts of Types #3 and #4, there is a detectible difference between line thickness. Type #4 has a thin line, while Type #3 (as well as Types # 1 and #2) all have thick lines. Add to this (although difficult to see in the scan) is that the coloration of the inserts for all Type #4 chips there is slight shade difference from all the other Types. That shade has a grayness to it, and the difference is consistent with (and present only on) the thin edge insert chips.
The variation between Types #1 and #2 deals with the metal CIC. Type #1 has a very flat surface. Type #2 has a puffy surface. Type #1 is like all Type # 3 and #4 issues (which were earlier versions).
Well, thats it. These differences are detectible and are consistent. Some collectors will agree that there are four different versions of the Palace Station $1 CIC issue, while others will only agree that there are only two versions.
Comments? Thanks for looking.
