Tyrus, Excellent question! English is what American speak but because you speak english does not make you American. English is the "Universal" language that the major portion of the world understands.

International pilots coming in from a foregein land MUST speak in English. Example: A French pilot landing in China must speak English to the Chinese control tower and the Chinese control tower must respond in English, which English is native tounge to neither parties.

Many, many currencies use dual or triple languages to insure understanding.
