Yes, that's the easiest way to tell. I'm not even sure if the LCV is really longer (blame me for coming up with that one years ago) and some refer to the hat being taller.
I tend to think it's mostly and optical illusion.
Anyway, the curved brim and the cane off the brim a little, is the easiest to spot. Or look at it as, the cane closer to the brim in the standard mold.
Whether it's really worth noting as a variety can be debated. Some issues have come from the factory with both molds mixed. Fresh and new. Some are later reprints of the identical chip.
For Wisconsin chips, I'm collecting both. Heck there is a limited supply of chips from Wisconsin, I have to get "everything".
The C&J do jump out, once you've seen one. That shiney surface is distinctive.
