I'm sure you didn't expect a reward, and wouldn't have taken one if offered. But, I feel some effort was in order. The person should have at least made an attempt. I'm not saying cash, but something. Sometimes in that situation a person doesn't know what to offer as a reward cash wise. Gift certificates to dinner somewhere or some other token of appreciation would have been cool with me. Something more than a "gee thanks.......see ya!" was definately in order.
