I recently acquired some MOP chips from Europe that are not like the ones that usually are marketed as collectibles. They are obviously thinner and are not scrimshawed or carved with as much detail. They all have some kind of a scene of two men playing a game in front of a building or house (maybe in a village). They are obviously old and made in the Orient.
I was told that sets of chips were made for more more common use than the ones that were commissioned for European aristocracy. They were shipped and marketed more speculatively and at lower costs. I've never heard that before then.
Anyone else??
Thanks in advance.
