Steve you just stated all the reasons BJ can not be beat in the long term. Casinos will not allow it. Rules are in place to stop it.
Anyone that can vary their bets, sit out hands, and come in in the middle of a hand after standing and watching could beat the game. Years ago you could even get floor people to look out the window for a piece of the action. The old days are gone.
Hence, I say BJ can not be beat in the long run.

BTW, I learned to count cards in the 60's. I played on winning teams.
It is of no value today. At best a counter can lower the house hold a few % points before he is ejected and sometimes not in a real nice way.
