Jim,
First, let me say that I do not want the current board to resign. What I do want them to do is realize that the manner in which they treat the volunteers has to be changed. Yes, I realize, they are volunteers too, not getting paid to do the job. One BIG difference though. They ran for the positions, knowing that we the membership would question their actions. They were willing to accept the titles and the responsiblities. As I remember, they actively campaigned for the positions. Surely they weren't so stupid as to believe that everyone would simply fall in line behind them and remain deaf and dumb for their entire terms of office.
NO, I'm not hiding behind my keyboard, if the deadline for the club magazine hadn't already passed, I'd write a letter to the editor voicing my opinions. If in the next couple of months, I see no improvement in things I will write that letter. I'm not afraid to stand up in any forum and state my opinions or views. And in my opinion, the board has, by their actions in the past several weeks, shown either a complete lack of respect for the membership/volunteers of this organization or total imcompetence. One or the other, doesn't really matter. They've managed to alienate a lot of members. I'm one of them.
Before anyone takes off on me...I am a club volunteer. I do it because I want to give something back, because I enjoy doing what I do. Not for money, not for glory - we all know there's none of that! In return, I expect my leaders to show some integrity. I expect my leaders to show leadership. From my viewpoint, neither has been exhibited as of late.
This is something the entire membership needs to know about. It's not a matter of the "electronic chippers" trying to form a hanging posse. It's a matter of information getting around quickly and people voicing opinions. Would you or anyone else rather that we not speak up at what we see to be wrong doings? Are we supposed to stand idly by? I've seen you react to too many things to believe that you'd stand for that.
I don't want to "get a rope" as we say here in Texas. I do want to make sure that the board understands that they are accountable to the members of the CC>CC, that the Club is made up of real live people with feelings and who care as much about what happens as the board does. What's wrong with that?
