Correct, David. The word "jeton" (for counter) is
derived from the French verb "jeter" which
translates to: throw, fling, hurl; to throw upward,
downward or outward (so far we're creating a picture
<g>). The word jeton (many uses for methods of
calculating) is basically used in German and French
speaking casino jurisdictions throughout the world.
In short (our interest), it is nothing more than a
token or chip, regardless of color, shape, size or
composition. A Bud Jones coin inlay chip is a jeton
in France, as is a Paulson or Chipco gaming piece.
In neighboring Spain they are known as Fichas.
