One could successfully argue that they are one and the same.... with the exception of spelling errors/mistakes.

If all the chips issued have a misspelled word, it is a mistake (not an error) since they are all the same. If a relatively few chips have the misspelling and the rest do not, then they are considered errors.

On the other hand, a chip that got through the quality control process, and escaped into the mainstream is an error.
