Asap, chip manufacturers have a myriad of anti-counterfeiting techniques available to them. Some are known and others are a guarded secret.
We know that Ultra Violet markings are an often used feature and also micro printing, i.e., a small dot of mylar (or similar durable material) is imprinted with micro text (or grapgics) and is imbedded onto the surface of the chip.
Newer technologies include a semi-conductor chip, or tuned RF load, which can be detected by electronic equipment at the casino cage. Some of this technology permits chip stack counting at the tables.
In addition to just being able to produce chips (no an insignificant task) these are just some of the ways to prevent counterfeiting.
