>>>We NEVER should have gone there to begin with
Sometime after we invaded Afghanistan, Senator Allen (R-Va) was confronted in a public forum with an individual who rambled on about the lives lost, the cost, the failure to acheive the primary objective, the lack of worldwide support, the tenuous connection to 9/11, etc.
After the individual was finished speaking, Senator Allen asked this:
Assuming that everything you just said is accurate (and I don't agree that it is) wasn't it worth it?
What he meant by that is simply that a terrible terrorist regime is now gone, an entire nation is free, and the world is a better place because of it.
Many folks (esp the media) like to spend hours pondering why we went into Iraq, they question the cost in both dollars and lives lost, and the connection to 9/11, etc.
My question is exactly that of Mr. Allens. Assuming all the negatives prove to be correct, wasn't it still worth it?
Didn't you celebrate with Iraq as they torn down that hideous statue of a murderous dictator who lived lavishly while his people suffered? Isn't the world a little safer today with that regime now gone? Do you really believe that the sons of the dictator (who were about to come into power) would have been more compassionate leaders to their people?
I think it is a shame that some folks can't look past today's headlines and see the bigger picture of what is happening.
