At last Sunday's A.C. Chapter Meeting at Showboat, a token collector loaned to me a very attractive Resorts token (medal?) that I had not seen before and asked if I would like to borrow it to photocopy for my next issue of "Black's Catalog". I really can't call it a token, as far as I can tell, it was not redeemable for anything. It's more like a commemorative medal that was issued/given to whom, I don't know. It's 1 1/2 inch in diameter, bright shiny brass with a reeded edge except for a 5/8" smooth edge at 12:00 o'clock. The obverse design is an Olympic shield with the five interlocking rings with an Olympic torch protruding behind at the top left center of the shield. Resorts building and stylized ocean waves that appears on the Resorts chips is superimposed over the vertical stripes at the bottom quarter of the Olympic shield. The upper half of the legend text, in an enclosed ring around the cetral design says, "United States Olympic Committee" The bottom half legend says, "Resorts International Hotel Casino"
The reverse legend simply has, in flowing script lettering, "Inaugural/ United States/ Olympic/ Gold Medal Winners/ Gala Celebration/ Saturday/ October 27, 1979" on seven lines of text only.
I would love to have been able to provide a scan.... but I'm unable to post scans to the BB. I can send scans to e-mail recipients, but I haven't mastered scanning to the www.yet. I've got the scan presently uploaded to AOL's "My Place" all ready to go, if anyone can take me from there to the internet, I would be happy to post it. I've never seen this piece before and have no idea how many were manufactured and/or who received them. It will be listed in next year's A.C. Catalog as T RES-0 Any help out there from you token collectors?
