The Tournament was at The Orleans and used The Orleans tournament chips. The Orleans then, as it does now, conducts two poker tournaments daily, so they had plenty of chips to use.
At the time, Gene Trimble, then working at the Fiesta, coordinated having the tournament. The Tropicana (where the Convention was held in 2000) did not have a poker capability, nor did the Fiesta. Gene made arrangements with The Orleans as they had the space, the dealers and the tables.
The following year, the Tournament was at the Excalibur. They had a poker room, they had access to dealers, but being the chip-Master that he is, Gene made sure we got to use a Club issued chip. (If I'm not mistaken, these may no longer be available from the Club's Promotions Director.)
The following year two years the Tournaments went back to The Orleans. Then, Gene went into the Palms as the Poker Room Manager, so all was set to be at the Palms. Chips were questionable, but they did happen, for the past two tournaments.
BTW-Thanks to Robert Pardue and Gene Trimble for making sure this very friendly and fun event takes place every yesr!
