A big thanks to Phyllis also. Phyllis sent me an email with a list of things to try.

With Phyllis' help,I did do what's called defrag my computer. I've never done it before, and it took half the afternoon.
Now that I've done it, just what the heck did I do, and why should I do it on a regular basis.
