... folks: There ain't no such thing.
This is a private forum, owned and operated by Greg Susong. Greg has the absolute right to allow (or not, as the case may be) discussion of any subject he chooses.
Or posting by (or not, if he chooses) any person.
Or use of any words (or not, if he finds them offensive for any reason) he chooses.
He has the right to remove any post he wants, for any reason he wants. We are all fortunate that he has a higher level of tolerance than is currently being exhibited by some governmental agencies which have arrogated unto themselves the power to tell the rest of us what we can see and listen to in national media. On the other hand, we are all unfortunate that some choose to abuse Greg's good nature.
The First Amendment of the United States Constitution (arguably the most important single paragraph in the history of governmental documents) has no application here. It says, "Congress shall make no law ...." By virtue of the 14th Amendment, that proscription has been extended to state governments as well. BUT, it has no application to private individuals, publications, venues, etc., such as The ChipBoard.
That said -- and it having been motivated by the Building Fund discussion -- I personally think that:
1) anonymous postings here (other than those made in obvious jest) are gutless expressions unworthy of serious consideration.
2) posting of unsubstantiated rumors of wrongdoing by club officials ("scams") is shameful and that such rumors are unworthy of serious consideration.
3) personal objection to the Building Fund concept is fine and if you have good reason for that objection, state it forthrightly and I am confident that it will be appropriately considered by the Club Board and the BF committee.
Like Archie (whose post below motivated me to post this) and many others, I have contributed several times to the Building Fund -- including purchases at BF auctions and of BF merchandise, more than $600 worth.
IMO, the objective of the BF is worth pursuing. Furthermore, I have absolute confidence that there is no "scam" involved here and that the individuals supervising the BF venture are acting in good faith and in the best interests of the club.
