Katie, I think I read on the board (in one of these current threads) that the Holiday International were Borland chips. Well, I am probably the least knowledgable persons regarding fakes, real or any other types of chips, but I just purchased the $5.00 chips for $2.50 at the Crystal Park show.
Because of the price I paid for the chip, I was real happy with my purchase no matter if the chips is real or fake. It went real well with my collection and added it the $1.00 chip I already had.
IMO, if you stick to lower priced chips, at least in the beginning of your collection career, you can't really be taken for too much money. It's these "old timers" that spend hundreds or thousands of dollars for a chip that must be careful, and most of those guys know what they are doing.
Of course, I admit that lack of knowledge can really be a hinderance, as I might come across a chip worth many hundred's of dollars, not know it, and will not go over my limit for a single chip purchase of a few dollars over face. But that is my loss.
In any case, I think Paul-son will send you a catalog of their fantasy chips and the Gambling store might do the same (assuming you do not live in the Las Vegas area. The only other advice I can give to you is to deal with people you are familiar with such as frequent contributors to this board. People that have a lot to lose if they purposely mislead you in any way.
You might notice in most cases when disputes arise, it USUALLY does not involve participants on Greg's board.
