The "hologram effect" you see is called a Moiré Pattern (pronounced more-ay). Moiré patterns are caused by interference between two sets of fine pattern grids, in this case, the tiny dots that make up the image and the texture on the plastic surface of the chip.

The upload has always been at the bottom of the page. I recently removed the "header" from the messages as a test and forgot to put it back, which I will do right now.
