Sad, but true. The "error" was caused by sunlight, possibly from being in a dealer's glass case. I was really excited by finding the Park Place $1 "error." The dealer swore it was not long in the glass case where I found it. I experimented by leaving a chip on my window sill. It took quite a while for it to become an "error" chip, but here it is:
