I did draw a distinction between the two hobbies - because they are two different hobbies. And this board is dedicated to Chip and Casino collecting, not numismatics, therefore I felt safe in saying "our hobby". That's not wishing numistmatists any ill-will or disrespect. It's simply distinguishing between the two.
And as for...
"buyers are going to shop where they get the biggest bang for their buck."
and...
"If hobby supplies are easily obtainable elsewhere for less money ... that's where the customer will do his/her business."
You're right, many people will choose to buy them elsewhere to save a few pennies. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. However, there's also nothing wrong with me encouraging our fellow hobbyists to support the vendors that cater to us.
As I pointed out in my previous post, there are very valid and tangible benefits to supporting those who cater to our hobby. You have to agree with that, don't you?
This is VERY similar to everyone going on about how we should "support the CCGTCC" by booking our rooms at the Riviera for the convention, even though we can get cheaper rates elsewhere (and in fact even get cheaper rates in the Riv by NOT asking for the CCGTCC rate). I guess if I apply your "go where you can get the best price" logic, even though we can get MUCH cheaper rates elsewhere, we should do so because it saves us money as individuals, right? Forget supporting the club or the hobby. Right? Or am I missing something??
Finally, I ask you, again, what's wrong with me encouraging our fellow hobbyists to support the vendors that cater to our hobby?
