If your only paying 40%, I want your CPA to do my taxes. Remember, the normal Federal Tax rate is 28%. Add to that approximately 8% California state tax plus the 15.3% Social Security tax and Medicare tax and now your up to over 50%. Not even counting sales tax, real estate tax and all the petty taxes such as personal property tax, use taxes, excise taxes and heavens knows what else.

But I don't know why your so concerned about your taxes. After all, according to the polls, very few people want a refund from the surplus in the general fund. That appears to me that most people care less what they give to the government to spend.

I just wonder what the government did before 1913 (the year the income tax law went into effect.) Do you suppose people actually had to work for living?
