I agree with you. I lost some respect for a particular chip collector when I learned that he had talked a seller into cancelling an auction and selling to him outright. Doing so caused another collector that I know to be shut out of the chance to bid on it. If the first collector wanted the chip that bad they should have been willing to bid whatever it took to win it in a fair auction.
