All calendars being arbitrary human creations, it seems silly to ascribe any particular significance to any particular date -- except, as Larry noted, the pure visceral pleasure of watching the zeros turn over. I HATE it when I forget to look at the odometer when it happens.

So, I will party for 2000, but with the sure knowledge that the currently popular but neverthess arbitrary calendar still has a year to go until the new century/millennium, Sam Waterston notwithstanding!
