Believe it or not, I was told the best way to clean chips was with... are you ready for this... MOTOR OIL!!! I will spare the person's name, but I did receive some chips from him after been "treated." The chips seemed unharmed for the greater extent (besides being a little slippery). They were shiny, but smelled like his garage floor. <g>
