Boy does that bring back memories. I used to work in the Milwaukee repair shops for the Milwaukee Road in the 1970's. I did the engineering for locomotive rebuilds, repairs and repair of shop equipment like turntables. Also got to travel occasionally on a track/engine test car from Milwaukee to Tacoma. Test car was a little late one time since a passing train hit and derailed us! The Milwaukee Road went bankrupt when a terrible corporate decision was made to repair bad track instead of locomotives. We ran out of running locomotives that winter and it caused the bankruptcy. When I started there we still had some Alcos and Baldwins and old EMD F-7's. That picture sure brings back memories of the cold and snow. You knew it is cold out when the diesel fuel would turn to wax and not pump any more.
