I'm new to chip collecting and have been trying to educate myself on the subject of Limited Edition (LE) and Commemorative chips. My understanding is that LE chips must be marked with "LTD" and the production run on the chip and the casino cannot re-release a new production run at a later date. Whereas Commemorative chips can be produced in limited quantities, but the casino reserves the right to re-release them at a later date.

Is this an actual regulation or generally accepted practice. I've seen many chips for sale on ebay listed as Limited edition chips but they do not have the "LTD" or production run on them.

Anyone shed some light on this.
