I was putting in some new auctions yesterday and noticed that eBay now lets you put 55 characters in the auction title. It used to be 45 characters. No extra charge for this.

Their notice:
***Now Available: Extended Title and Subtitle***

Many members of the Community have let us know that they would like to be able to add more text to their Item Title and Subtitle. We are very pleased to announce that an additional ten (10) characters are now available in the Item Title at no additional charge. Formerly, the Title allowed for 45 characters of text, which has now been increased to a total of 55 characters. In addition, we have also added 10 characters to the Subtitle listing upgrade, which also increases the total characters to 55. The fee for Subtitle will remain at $0.50 per listing.
The extra ten characters in both the Title and Subtitle will allow sellers to further describe their items and help buyers better decide which items to look at. The longer Title will be searchable through Title Search, the same way that it was previously.
Turbo Lister and Seller's Assistant will support the longer Title when their newest updates are released in about a week.
We hope this enhancement improves your selling and buying experience on eBay.
Regards,
eBay
Robert
