While I don't attempt to sell for high prices or gouge on shipping, it's a little bit idealistic to think that each one of use should spend the time to weigh and measure every item. Buy chips and sell them, without considering the expenses involved.
Look at almost anything you purchase through a mail order catalog. S&H fees, and it's not what it costs them.
I agree that it's not right to make shipping the profit in an item, but there's all too much made about how much an envelope costs, the tape, and why shouldn't the listing fee and paypal fee be covered by the buyer? Don't you think everything you buy at the grocery store has delivery added into the price?
Consumers pay the costs of transportation and advertising, when they buy a product, even when we pick it up ourself, at the store. That's why name brands cost more... advertising.
I'm happy with $2 an item shipping for something small and some minimal fee like 50c extra for each additional item shipped in the same package.
It takes time to pack, address, label, stamp, seal, flip, paper, plus obtaining the chip. The computer and scanner cost money. The funniest was a guy who said he charged so much because he had to drive the package to the Post Office.
It costs money to advertise (eBay or Jackpot) there are fees for taking credit cards or paypal. There are expenses in getting and holding the chips.
Yes, the buyer ends up paying those fees, just like we do every time we go to the corner store to buy a pack of gum.
If someone is asking too much for shipping Don't buy from them. Go someplace else. Or write them a note and explain that you won't be bidding on their auction, because of excessive shipping charges.
Haven't we beat this one to death yet?
