I did volunteer work for Archaeological Rescue of Wisconsin which got us into some pretty interesting and exclusive sites. (I had to pay for the right to work...)
One of the Dept. heads said you could murder every employeed archaeologist in the country and the positions would be filled, without any trouble. As in, there are more than enough to go around.
Certified as in Masters or Phd maybe?
Rescue work by the way meant (for example) that if an Interstate ramp was going in and the crew found signs of historic or prehistoric nature, the ARI team would have a limited time to dig and determine what was there and that it was or wasn't significant. Then the construction would continue.
Kind of like roulette harvesting. Get in, assess the situation, grab what you can and get out.
