You're absolutely right. There's no way for me to tamper-proof this system without making everyone sign-up for passwords and accounts. Even then, without requiring everyone to be a ccgtcc member, it wouldn't be completely tamper-proof.
All this is to say, that because this polling system was designed for entertainment, it does not warrant the level of effort it would take to build and use such a system.
If the CCGTCC wants such a system for their use, it could be tamper-proofed, and it might be worth the effort for them if they were wanting to use it for gathering statistical information upon which to base decisions. However, since the current board hasn't shown any interest in such a system, I don't think we'll be seeing it in the near future.
In the meantime, the polls at 2chippers.com continue to be there for our entertainment purposes and for educational purposes (such as the questions designed to help new members decide the best way to store their chips), not for important decision-making purposes.
This system only ever becomes biased when controversial subjects like this one are surveyed and some wise-guy feels the need to waste his time and mine by falisfying the data. It's always obvious when a wise-guy decides to do this. There are usually about 40-60 answers to any individual poll, so when I notice that we have 100+ answers, I know there's a wise-guy in the system and I go clean-up the data.
For the record, I will be making some changes shortly that will make it a real pain-in-the-a$$ for these wise-guys. They'll still be able to falsify a vote, but at least they'll have to log-off the internet to do it. I imagine this will significantly cut-down on the tampering, and it will totally eliminate the accidental duplicate answers.
