There are a number of people who do point out the "Rare" chips that are listed as Obsolete, when they are still on the tables.

Someone was selling the old Paris $1 chip as hard to get and actually got some pretty hefty bids. (don't know if it was a club member) But I'm still not convinced that someone would pay $28 for a common $1 chip, just because an auction says it's rare. I suspect that the seller had a friend buying to push up the market.

Selling a real chip and embellishing the scaricty is difficult to defend, so I won't, but it's all part of marketing to include some puff and fluff.

Calling a $1000 fake chip, rare and saying it came from some high roller granny and it was made for the bi-centenial, is a bit over the limits! Wouldn't you agree? Outright lie and fabrication.

Meanwhile asking $10 for a $1 chip that isn't in play and can only be obtained from the cage at an out of the way location, is debatable. I can ask $10 for a current chip if I want, it's up to the buyer.

However putting up a fake chip, as real, that's worth $3 or less, and stating other lies plus asking $1500 for it, isn't just a high asking price, it's an attempt to defraud a buyer.
