Pete - you are a loose cannon, attacking me (oh - wrong thread).
I can't appreciate what you are saying - I ate there last time out. The lady has run the place down and she ought to get out while she can.
I though Jack and her settled their dispute over who was going to run it by her buying him out.
Next thing - Jack has his own shops. Was he unable to get approval from GCB? I hadn't heard that. Why would another jurisdiction let him operate a casino? Usually one says no, the others follow - ala the Playboy ion London and then AC.
On top of all her other troubles, there was the matter of refusing to cash the "brownies" of Bob Stupak (among others). The 5K chips were kept in deposit boxes at Binions so poker players wouldn't have to carry around lots of cash.
If the million dollars was drawing folks in, I would think it was paying for itself. Did Mirage turn off the volcano - does Bellagio shut off the fountains, did Treasure Island ('er - never mind).
Anyway - it was part of the lore of Binions and she needed cash. You are right Pete - if I needed it to stay open, I'd cash in the million. I think that was just a symptom of a worse disease and it certainly didn't proove to be a cure.
But that wasn't enough - FSE got stiffed, the IRS, the workers. Don't know what the outcome on the brownies was.
The Place - yes a great piece of Vegas history. The current ownership - when they leave it will be a case of addition by subtraction.
the Phantom! (LOL)
