Hey, I used to live at 23rd and Walnut... and WALK to work. Living in L.A. now, I can't tell you how funny that sounds.

Anyway... want the best cheese steak around? Bar none? You gotta go to Mama's on Belmont Avenue in Bala Cynwyd. Nothing touches it. Anywhere.

When I was living in Philly in the early 80's, Philadelphia Magazine did a piece rating all of the cheese steaks in the greater Philadelphia area. Mama's was the only one that got a 10. There was a place near Cherry Hill that I also used to go to (it was right near Greg Luzinski's racketball place, where I used to play) that got the only 9. Pat's and Geno's both got rated an 8.

I got a friend here in L.A. (who used to have a top job at a movie studio) who for years had Mama's Fed-Ex'ed here. A year ago he opened up his own cheese steak place here in L.A. (in Westwood, actually) and it's the best in town.

They even got wooder ice!
