UFC (Unidentified Flying Chip) is a term instigated by my good friend and partner, Michael Knapp. Since the beginning of our club, to a few years ago, Michael wrote an article for the club magazine, "The Information Booth" in which he and others, would try to ID unknown chips. He concocted "UFC" from the "UFO" days of the 1950's.
As to your HGCC chip, there has been no confirmation whatsoever, that this chip was used at Harold's Gun Club. One of our dealer-collectors tried to attribute the chips that he found, to this club, in order to up the ante for this chip. His only real claim was that the letters fit as on another chip, $1 Black N5101. This chip has HG on one side with a horseshoe and HC "Good Luck" in a clover on the other side. It was never confirmed either, but at least it had the same H.C.E. mold as was on all of the confirmed Harold's Gun Club chips. And,......it had the approval of Howdy Herz, Bruce Landau, C.T. Rodgers, and most well respected members back then. The monograms were thought to be "HC" for Harold's Club and "HG" for Harold's Gun. Believe me, many of us were sceptible on this one, too.
