Maybe I should have just addressed this to Greg, but I thought it was interesting enough to be of use and value to all the members of "The Board."
A while back I was having a problem with my Earthlink "start" page, it was calling information from a stored cookie on my HD. An Earthlink Tech stepped me through a clean up. In the process the clean up wiped out all my stored info, ie user names and passwords for web sites.
When I re accessed TCB it didn't know who I was, so I reentered my info.
Tonight I decided to access the Profiles section of the Board, to see if any of the new folks had posted. I scrolled down to my name, and clicked on it. It was then that I noticed that it said I had only posted six times. Six Times????
I looked closer and noticed that when I had reentered my info I included the # sign in my name.
So instead of my original:
Mike Pellerin R-5986
I listed my name as:
Mike Pellerin #R-5986
I've since switched back to the original. I think it's interesting that the Board sorts on user name, rather than email address. I'm sure that this is just a fluke. I should have figured it out when I entered the New info, and all my messages came back New as well!
Now, before you say: This Guy's an idiot! And I can be at times! I have 8 email addresses that are all quite similar, so yeah, I got confused.
I can't help but think that the site should have recognized my email address and suggested the appropriate user name. Hmmm...
So what do y'all think? Is this a fluke, a flaw, or a way for Greg to thwart identity theft?
