I know David is capable of doing excellent repairs of clay chips with inlays. He removes the drilled inlays, fills the hole and replaces the inlays with copies he has made. I saw some of the inlays while interviewing him for the brass core investigation. As Gene says, his inlays are excellent quality reproductions.
I don't think he can do comparable work on hot stamped chips, as the fill would be visible. It can't be seen on the chips with inlays because the new inlays conceal the repair.
BTW, I did not formally investigate the issue of clay chips, as there was at that time (and to my knowledge still has not been) any complaint of deceit in the sale of such a chip. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that some of David's repaired chips have since been sold by his customers without disclosure of the repairs.
