Gene's exactly right, John. "Gold" hotstamping turns "silver" with use. Some chips seem to be more susceptible to this than others, but I'm not sure why. The body of the chip can still be in pretty good condition, but the surface of the "gold" hotstamping wears off, and "silver" is underneath it.

I would be extremely surprised to find that these were actually two different chips.
