Jay,
I appreciate your comments and take them with respect. I do though, have the greatest respect for James and what James writes in his book. He writes on page 38, "a drilled chip is generally worth 30% of what it would be if it weren't damaged". You don't agree with him, I do and use that as a general rule for newbies, so be it.
IMHO, can't imagine anyone that believes ebay represents "retail prices" at any level despite the reach. But lets ask the board!
According to James, not me, high end dealers nor high end chips are not being listed. James himself, wrote in a post on this site just a few days ago that he is very disappointed that no high end chips are being listed or offered and this, despite his well publicized offers for high end chips. And he knows eeeevryone so I, again, believe him. So be it.
Regarding my values being on the high side. You're right. Should I have been lower Probably. But does Mr Cruz know about rarity, molds, inlays and condition. No? He knows about a cartoon cowboy though. He knows $325 and 30% though. I error a bit higher with newbies. Why? To prevent Mr Cruz and those inexperienced from selling to the first $1,500 offered due to lack of knowledge, then being devastated when they found out they were really worth $3,000, $4,000, $5,000 or even more perhaps had someone like James consigned them. Starting at the high end IMHO prevents that and makes them go to a number of dealers or sources to get the best price, which is the goal in the forst place and a lesson for all. Don't take the first offer.
Hey its good that everyone shares their views and disagrees on things in our industry at times. It is thought provoking, but we do it with good intentions, we smile anyway and have fun nonetheless always working with a focused effort to continually improve the hobby we love!
Have a Happy Holiday season! I'll buy you a drink at the convention and Mr Cruz...pssst...Don't take less than $850 for it! :)
