I just saw the movie, "The Cooler." It got generally favorable reviews, along with quite a few poor ones. Would mostly be enjoyed by fans of the actor William H Macy or Las Vegas casino action.
My question is: do casinos ever employ "coolers"? In the movie "William H. Macy takes on the role of his career as a luckless Vegas schmoe who has infectious bad luck -- luck so bad that he's employed by a sleazy mobbed-up casino boss (Alec Badlwin) to jinx the high roller action on the casino floor." That is, whenever there is a big winning streak at a table or slot machine, the superstitious casino staff signals "The Cooler" to just join the table or stand next to the successful gambler -- to change (cool) the players' "luck." Is this tactic ever used? Ever hear of the word "Coooler" used in this way?
